The BF and I spend Thanksgiving with our families, together. We go from one to the other, making a conscious effort to share the love and the time equally between each household. That means one helluva number of turkey sandwiches, salads, and desserts. It seems the four or five days is merely one endless meal after the other, just consumed at different tables with a different family. Truth be told, it may even be the same turkey transported by a secret route between the two residences. I know, quit the moaning and count our blessings.
Trust me, we do. Each and every day. We have loving families that accept us as a couple in love. Even though we are the only openly gay couple in each family unit. And we are the only interracial couple in each family unit. We've always been received with open arms. There have been the occasional awkward moments. That's no surprise, it comes with the territory. For the most part, all you can do is laugh and move on. There are those minor tense times in all families, even without the gay and race issues.
We both hail from rather large families. When you factor the growing families of siblings, the quarters get fairly crowded. We've offered to go to a nearby hotel and stay. Give our bed and space to the relatives with children. Neither of our sets of parents are amenable to that suggestion. Both pair want all their brood under one roof. End of discussion and pass the pie, please.
The result is always a five night stretch of sharing a cramped house with only a limited, at best, amount of privacy. Nieces in every corner and a nephew or two or half a dozen running in and out of the rooms day and night. A line waiting outside of the bathrooms that rivals those in front of retail businesses on Black Friday. I can describe the scene for another ten paragraphs but I think you get the picture.
Finally, the Thanksgiving holiday is over and we find ourselves back at home. No sooner do we get our luggage into our apartment and the door locked behind us then we rip off our clothes and relax. Peace. Quiet. Privacy. We don't get beyond the living room before we find ourselves involved in one of the most intense and satisfying sessions of passion that days of abstinence allow. Work out all the accumulated stress and tension of almost a week away from carnal opportunity. Relief.
Family love is great. Besides, Thanksgiving comes but once a year. Such a small price to pay to spend time with the ones we love.
Oh, there's another holiday approaching? Christmas? Easter?
