Stand Against GLBT Youth Suicide

Tomorrow, October 19, 2012, is Spirit Day, observed to raise awareness against LGBT youth bullying and suicide. This campaign is sponsored by GLAAD. It was started as a grassroots effort in 2010 by a teen, Brittany McMillian, who was alarmed by the rise in the number of young people ending their lives over their actual or perceived sexual orientation.

People are urged to show their concern over these problems by wearing the color purple as part of their clothing or a purple awareness ribbon. Please join me in taking a stand for our gay youth and against bullying and suicide.

Even one LGBT teen suicide is one too many. The same holds true for any teen questioning her/his sexuality and for anyone suffering the isolation and the pain of bullying. This is fast becoming an all-to-familiar situation with our nation's adolescents. The time for this madness and persecution to stop is now! Wear purple. Show that you give a damn!
